A 1968 School Memory from King Edward VI School, Totnes

I recently rediscovered a photograph of a group of friends and me, taken in 1968, when I was in the Upper Sixth at King Edward VI School in Totnes, Devon. It's a wonderful reminder of school days, old friendships, and memories that have stayed with me for more than half a century.
I'm the chap hiding in the shadows, looking down behind the pointing finger. As the saying goes, "The moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on" - or words to that effect!
The chap on my left is Alan Hill, an incredibly bright scholar from Reading. We were always amused by his old library card, which rather wonderfully read "Reading Public Library." Geddit?
I've always been quite happy in the shadows. An eminence grise can often achieve far more than a blustering bully - no names mentioned here, of course! Besides, I absolutely hate having my photograph taken, so perhaps the shadows are exactly where I belong.
But now I have to admit to an addiction.
It's not drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or any other noxious substance. No, my particular addiction is connected, in some way, with Alan Hill's library ticket.
I'll leave you, gentle reader, with the relatively easy task of working it out before the next blog. Perhaps the clue is hiding in plain sight.
Until then, goodbye for now - and thank you for taking a stroll with me down memory lane to 1968, King Edward VI School in Totnes, and the friends who made those school days memorable.
