Hallowe’en, Cornish Ghost Stories and the Story of Bernard “Pop” Green MC

t's Hallowe’en, the end of the old year as far as I'm concerned, and a thin place between the living and the dead. Tomorrow, we remember all those who have died in the past year. In Mexico, families will celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), sharing picnics at family graves and remembering their ancestors. A lovely tradition, although it's worth remembering that it's a lot warmer in Mexico than it is here in Cornwall!

A Quiet Man: The Story of Bernard “Pop” Green MC

My latest book, A Quiet Man, is currently with a military publisher. They're interested, but they'd like a longer book, so I'll be happy to spend the coming winter expanding the story. There's no guarantee they'll publish it, of course, but they're only one publisher, and I'll keep exploring the possibilities.

The book retells the story of my grandfather, Bernard “Pop” Green MC, the oldest Great Escaper and a survivor of two world wars. I've uncovered a wealth of new material and share not only his remarkable story, but also the research process and the many journeys I've made in his footsteps.

I think Pop would have been amused by all the attention and would probably have wondered what all the fuss was about.

Discover Launceston's Ghost Stories at the Tarosvan Festival

If you're visiting Launceston, Cornwall, on 21 November, come along to the Black Cat Bookshop. I'll be reading some of my Launceston ghost stories as part of the Tarosvan Festival.

Tarosvan is a Cornish word for a ghost in Kernewek, the Cornish language. Another word associated with Cornish folklore is bucca. Cornwall has a rich tradition of folklore, legends and ghost stories, and Launceston is a wonderful place to explore its haunted history.

Often described as one of Cornwall's most haunted towns, Launceston is well worth a visit, especially if you enjoy local history, supernatural tales and the darker side of Cornish heritage.

So, if you're looking for ghost stories in Launceston, a literary event in Cornwall, or a reason to explore Cornwall's haunted past, come down to Kernow if you dare!

I look forward to sharing some spooky stories with you,

Laurence
