In this work Charles Causley’ love/hate relationship with religion is examined in a readable way, suggesting that a life-long fascination and struggle with faith is what lay at the heart of Causley’s genius. Quoting many of his poems and rare autobiographical writings I chart the growth of Causley’s troubled Christian faith as well as the religious aspects of his upbringing and his tentative relationship with the Methodist and Anglican Churches.

"...It is quite brilliant. I’ve learnt so much about Charles’s work and motivations in the last few hours - and I’m grateful to you for setting it all out with such clarity and by creating something eminently readable and fascinating. I can’t praise you enough – it’s a brilliant piece of work. Also, it’s a joy to be working with someone who writes so well. Informed, thoughtful and clear. We at Scryfa are very proud to be publishing this book." Simon Parker.
