This biography of my grandfather is a remarkable story of survival against the odds. After a theology degree at Cambridge, Green fought as a light infantry officer and commander of a machine gun company from March 1915 until October 1918. Twice wounded, he fought at the battles of First and Second Ypres, The Somme, Messines Ridge and Passchendaele. With battles of his own between the wars he joined the RAFVR in 1939, survived being shot down off the Danish coast in 1940, was captured and sent to Stalag Luft 3. He played a part in the Wooden Horse Escape and was the oldest man to take part as an escaper in the ‘Great Escape’ in 1944. He survived the Long March in 1945 and died in 1971.

Containing previously unpublished photographs and copies of letters sent to his son from various PoW camps this book is a good read about a quiet and modest man with a huge powers of endurance.
